Terrible work on this T5.1 van, why do they do this???

TH Performance

In this morning for a health check was a T5.1 102 bhp van. Before we dyno them we carry out a full diagnostic scan however for this van everything had an error, a code read error. We also noticed that no warning lights came on, no dpf light, nothing. We tried to wipe it clean but the same faults came up.

The owner came in with this as it felt lumpy and the engine management light would flash on then go off intermittently. This wasn’t right. The owner advised us that it had been remapped by a local company in Gosport, this got us thinking. The owner complained of the engine management light coming on but it had no fault codes, just an error code telling us there was a fault with reading these codes, in every module.

We then dyno’d it and this made 171 bhp and 371 nm of torque. This is way too high for the 102 bhp model, 330nm or thereabouts is more than enough for smooth torque delivery. It also had large All-Terrain wheels on, we take this into account when we tune them.

We advised the owner of our findings (he was there watching). All the fault codes had been turned off with this van meaning if the van had a fault you wouldn’t know or be able to plug a laptop in to find out. This is shocking work, if it were my van I would be straight back there demanding a refund and giving them a bill for any faults with it that needed repairing.

We put this back to stock using VW software, in fact we upgraded the software to the latest available version from VW. We then dyno’d it again and it made perfect stock power at 103.5 bhp and 247 nm of torque. It also showed up faults as it should do, when on the dyno because the rear wheels don’t move it shows wheel speed sensor faults within the ABS system, it didn’t with the old remap on it. How f*cking stupid and dangerous is that, turning off ABS faults, shocking work, they should be ashamed of this.

We then applied a Pendle Performance map to this van and it made a perfect 161 bhp and 332 nm of super smooth torque with all the fault codes working as normal.

Once finished we did a few adaptions and made sure that this left us perfect and with everything working as it should.

Why on earth this van was sent out in this condition beggars belief. You get what you pay for folks. Done once, done right, first time, evert time.
