What can we say about this van, it is this type of van that gives you headaches because idiots have been let loose on it.


This came into us because it didn’t run right, it had no boost and was in limp mode most of the time.
We suspected a blocked DPF however the owner told us that the insides had been removed. We checked this and yes the insides were gone. Now the issue we had was that it had no faults and that was because who ever remapped this before had simply turned all the fault codes off.
The best thing for us to do was return it to stock then fix the faults so Martin at Pendle kindly supplied us with the stock software for this van.


It had faults and still had no boost. We found an aftermarket MAF sensor, aftermarket MAP sensor and an aftermarket N75 (boost pressure convertor). We replaced these for genuine VW ones because they work and they work properly.


Whilst replacing the N75 sensor a wire dropped down which had been tucked away, this was the exhaust manifold temperature sensor, it had simply been cut off both ends. Now the headache started. Every nut and bolt was either seized or the wrong one had been used before. This 3-4 hours now turned into 8 hours before the manifold came off. We then made numerous attempts to free up the sensor alas it is welded in. The oner was lucky as we found a used Manifold on ebay and they sent it t us overnight and didn’t charge for postage so a big shout out goes to MIM Ltd In Nottinghamshire for getting it us at 0850 this morning, amazing service.
We only charge what we paid for the manifold, we don’t make profit on items like this so a whopping £70 was added to the overall bill as opposed to us spending hours o end and re-threading the manifold for this sensor.


We then refitted everything and once up and running it still had no boost. There had been repairs to the MAP sensor wiring (under the coolant bottle) but some idiot had wired it back to front ie 1234 was 4321. The van was stuck with the boost sensor saying it was at full boost (so no low down power then at 2000 rpm it kicked in). We rewired the sensor the correct was around and then tested it on our dyno and road tested it to be 100% certain.


When this came in it made 76 bhp and 155 nm of torque (like an old 1.9td T4 van) but once fixed and the awesome Pendle performance software applied it made 167 bhp and 404 nm of torque.
