Every now and then, a van comes in that reminds us why honesty matters more than hype.
This VW Caddy was booked in with good intentions. The owner was hoping for the same smooth, usable gains we deliver day in, day out. Unfortunately, this one is fitted with the newer Bosch MD1CS004 ECU, and right now there’s no safe or supported way into it.

That’s not us being awkward. That’s just the reality of modern vehicle security.
Manufacturers are locking ECUs down tighter than ever. Until the equipment manufacturers release a proven method of access, forcing it simply isn’t an option. We won’t risk damaging an ECU, and we won’t sell half-baked work just to say yes.
So for today, it’s a slow drive home. No magic button. No clever workaround. Just the truth.
The important bit?
As soon as access is available and properly supported, we’ll be ready. This Caddy will be welcome straight back in, and the job will be done properly.
We’d rather disappoint you once with honesty than take your money and leave you with a bigger problem. That’s how we’ve always worked at TH Performance, and that’s not changing any time soon.
If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is currently remappable, ask us first. We’ll check, explain it clearly, and tell you exactly where things stand.
A Few Quick FAQs
Why can’t my VW Caddy be remapped?
Some newer VW Caddy models are fitted with the Bosch MD1CS004 ECU. At present, this ECU cannot be accessed safely using approved remapping tools.
What is the Bosch MD1CS004 ECU?
The Bosch MD1CS004 is a newer generation engine control unit with advanced security designed to prevent unauthorised software access.
Can the ECU be forced or bypassed?
No. Forcing access risks permanent ECU damage and potentially very costly replacement, which is why we will not attempt it.
Is this a permanent limitation?
No. Access methods are continually being developed. Once a safe and supported solution is released, remapping will become possible.
Should I wait or book anyway?
If your vehicle has this ECU, it’s best to wait. We’re happy to check ECU details for you before any booking is made.
Will remapping be available in the future?
Very likely. It’s a case of when, not if, but only once it can be done safely and properly.
Why won’t you just try and see what happens?
Because professionalism matters. Guesswork and risk-taking have no place in proper engine calibration.
